Plavix is applied for preventing heart attacks and strokes in persons with heart disease (recent heart attack, unstable angina), recent stroke, or blood circulation disease (peripheral vascular disease). The principle of its work consists in blocking certain blood cells called platelets and prevents them from forming harmful blood clots, what in its turn helps to keep blood flowing smoothly in your body.
HOW TO USE PLAVIX:
It is an oral medication. Take plavix one time a day (with or without food) or as prescribed by your doctor. In order not to forget take this medication at the same time.
PLAVIX SIDE EFFECTS:
You may experience such plavix side effects as constipation, headache, dizziness, stomach upset/pain, diarrhea, rash, flu-like symptoms, or back/joint pain. Inform your doctor in the case of worsening or persisting any of the mentioned above side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. While you are taking this drug, it may take longer for bleeding to stop if you experience a cut or injury. If you experience such unusual but serious side effects as unusual or easy bruising/bleeding, vision changes, slurred speech, confusion, loss of consciousness, persistent stomach/abdominal pain, black stools, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, chest pain, swelling, depression, signs of infection (e.g., fever, persistent sore throat), unusual weakness/tiredness, persistent nausea/vomiting, yellowing eyes/skin, dark urine, unusual change in the amount of urine. Inform your doctor immediately. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction include: swelling, dizziness, rash, itching, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. Do not forget that your doctor has prescribed this medication because the benefit to you is greater than the risk of plavix side effects.
PLAVIX PRECAUTIONS:
Tell your doctor if you have any allergic reaction. Your doctor or pharmacist must know your medical conditions, especially if you have such problems as blood disorders (e.g., hemophilia), bleeding conditions (e.g., active peptic ulcers). If you have such medical conditions as recent surgery, serious injury (physical trauma), severe liver disease, severe kidney disease, history of abnormal bleeding, other conditions that may put you at high risk for bleeding (e.g., certain stomach/abdominal problems, certain eye diseases) inform your doctor before taking this medication. Your doctor should know that you are taking this medication before you have surgery. Your doctor may instruct you to stop plavix prior to surgery. This drug may make you dizzy. Be attentive while engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. As far as combination of this medication with alcohol may result in stomach bleeding, try to avoid alcohol. Plavix is not recommended during pregnancy. Discuss the all pro and contra with your doctor. It is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk. Breast-feeding is not recommended while using this drug. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
PLAVIX INTERACTIONS:
Your doctor or pharmacist may already be acquainted with any possible plavix interactions. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with them first. Consult your doctor about aspirin intake. Your doctor should know about all the medications you are taking, especially of: atorvastatin, "blood thinners" (e.g., warfarin, heparin). Look through the labels on all your medications to find out if they contain pain relievers/fever reducers (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, naproxen, or aspirin) which can increase the risk of bleeding/anti-platelet effect when used with plavix. Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of those products.
NOTES:
Do not share plavix with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.g., complete blood count) should be performed periodically to monitor your progress or check for side effects. Ask your doctor for more information.
